Patients put real weight on their lab results. A national survey of 1,000 U.S.-based patients conducted by YouGov and commissioned by Siemens Healthineers, announced from Tarrytown, New York, on January 7, 2026, found that 98% say lab results provide meaningful insights into their health.
The same survey found that 94% are more likely to follow a doctor's advice when it is backed by test results, and 89% expressed interest in lab testing that can predict health risks.
In Scarsdale, SeeBeyond Medicine offers functional medicine at 2 Overhill Road, Suite 260, within walking distance of the Scarsdale Metro-North train station. Scarsdale has been the practice's home since 2006, the year Dr. Hyun Joon Lee founded SeeBeyond Medicine. Dr. Lee holds board certification in Family Medicine, Integrative Holistic Medicine, and Obesity Medicine, and the practice describes its test-first approach as the diagnostic standard behind over 20,000 patient treatment plans.
As the practice describes it, functional medicine testing evaluates biochemical, genetic, hormonal, nutritional, and microbial markers to look for the underlying drivers of symptoms. The practice says this testing can reveal imbalances that standard bloodwork often misses.
Care follows four steps: a comprehensive consultation to discuss symptoms, health history, and goals; advanced testing such as comprehensive blood panels, genomic testing, GI analysis, hormone panels, or food sensitivity tests; a follow-up consultation to review findings; and a targeted plan that can include supplementation, lifestyle strategies, and clinical treatment tailored to the test results.
"Patients want to understand what is driving how they feel. Functional medicine gives them that picture through testing, and the results guide each step of the plan we build with them," said a spokesperson for SeeBeyond Medicine.
Functional Medicine Checklist
- Write down your main symptoms and when they started before the first visit.
- Bring recent lab results from other providers so nothing is repeated without reason.
- Ask what each recommended test measures and how it will shape your plan.
- List every supplement and medication you take, since some can affect test results.
- Ask when your results will be reviewed with you and how follow-up works.
