Most older adults are managing at least one health issue, yet few have talked with a provider about approaches beyond conventional care. AARP Research published its 2025 Integrative Medicine Insights on January 20, 2026, and reported that 8 in 10 adults 50-plus face at least one health issue.
Only 18% have talked about complementary health approaches with a provider, according to AARP, and lack of information and uncertainty about effectiveness are the biggest hurdles. The survey was conducted November 13 to 17, 2025, and included 1,008 adults age 50 and older.
In Greenwich, SeeBeyond Medicine offers functional medicine at 1200 E Putnam Ave, 2nd Floor. The location has dedicated parking for patients and is accessible from the Cos Cob Metro-North station. Dr. Hyun Joon Lee founded the practice in 2006 and holds board certification in Family Medicine, Integrative Holistic Medicine, and Obesity Medicine. The practice says it has helped over 20,000 patients across Westchester and Fairfield County.
As the practice describes it, functional medicine testing evaluates biochemical, genetic, hormonal, nutritional, and microbial markers to identify the underlying causes of disease, rather than sorting patients by symptoms alone. The practice says each test maps a patient's unique physiology, revealing imbalances that standard bloodwork often misses.
Care follows four steps: a comprehensive consultation to discuss symptoms, health history, and goals; advanced testing such as comprehensive blood panels, genomic testing, GI analysis, hormone panels, or food sensitivity tests; a follow-up consultation to review findings; and a targeted plan that can include supplementation, lifestyle strategies, and clinical treatment tailored to the test results.
"Many people come to us after being told their bloodwork is normal while they still feel unwell. Functional medicine starts with the right tests, so the plan is built on that person's own results rather than on guesswork," said a spokesperson for SeeBeyond Medicine.
