Scarsdale is a town and village in Westchester County, New York, United States. The town of Scarsdale was carved out of the pre-colonial manor belonging to Caleb Heathcote in 1788. 

History

Scarsdale’s six-and-a-half square miles was home to only 281 people in 1790, a third of whom were Quakers living in the eastern section of town1. During the American Revolution, both the Continental and British armies passed through parts of Scarsdale. 

After a brief battle near the junction of modern Mamaroneck and Garden Roads, General Sir William Howe spent some time in the Griffen farmhouse. Scarsdale became a town by the law of March 7, 1788.

Scarsdale is a town and village in Westchester County, New York. According to the US Census Bureau, Scarsdale had a population of 18,063 people as of 2023. 

The population density is 2,200 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the village was 83.5% White, 1.9% African American, 0.1% Native American, 11.6% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 0.9% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races

Scarsdale has a public school system that includes five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school1. Scarsdale Union Free School District is a top-rated public school district located in Scarsdale, NY. It has 4,657 students in grades K-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 13 to 12. According to state test scores, 90% of students are at least proficient in math and 87% in reading.
